STATE UNIVERSITY.The Commencement at the State University last week, attracted an unusual number of visitors. Mr. 1*. A. Stovall, of the staff or the Chronicle Constitutionalist, speaks of the ent ire exercises In very laudatory terms. Palmer.The Board of 'Trustees have elected Mr. Wm. W. Thomas, of Athens, life member, in place 4if Mr. Alula Johnson, deceased. They have also promoted Mr. David C. Barrow, Jr., to the adjunct professorship of Pure and Applied Mathematics, with rank* and pay of professor-adeserved and substant ial compliment. The Trustees have also petit ioned t he Legislature for two thousand dollars, with which Increase to their endowment they hope to be aide to give free tuition to all students in every department next year.
