Hull: In answer to yournote in relation to the bill of J. West^ %Goodwin, of Si'd»lia,fQrpriutiugdoue at this office, 1 have to say, that, Mr. Goodwin came to the city previous to the last Pettis county horsesbow.and con Iracted for 250 tkree-3beet bills for $36. The im print of the Bazoo was placed upon them, and the blits seat forward by express, C. O-JD. Wordwas at once returned that Mr, Goodwin could not take them out and pay cash for them, as be had to depend ou the Society for his money ; when paid he would pay. I accordingly ;Instructed the Express Agent to deliver the bills w ilhout collection. No 'money came as per agreement, I wrote March SOth, 1871, and received for an answer that he had not been paid. July 12, 1871,1 wrote to Mr, Ives, President of the Association, who informed me that Mr. Goodwin bad been paid. Two or three subsequent letters to Mi. Goodwin being unanswered, wc transferred the charge to our “dead beat account—a pretty ponderous volume by the way.Mr. Ives we hud no claim against, but if Mr. Good win states that he has ever paid l)i» bill to this office for the work done for him, lie Blales a deliberate falsehood.
