Government deputed Lieut. H urn den, of the CJ. S. Navy, to rrmice on exploration of the Amazon. Lieut Ft. ha3 returned, after descending the Amazon forover 3,000 miles from its head waters* which rise in the mountains of Peru. The N. Y. Times gives the fallowing brief but interesting notice o{ this famous exploration, which will soon be laid before Congress, in all its details: Lieut, II. Ion LhnUi on the Pacific coast, with a small party of exploration, in the month of May of List year. At Tuoma, a small city of Peru, situated between the cast and west ranges of the Andes, Mr. U. divided his party, and directed his com] anion, 'Lardner Griblpon, with a guide and servant, to proceed to Cuzco, and, penctivatihg- eastward from that ciljj, endeavor to* etriKe the headwaters of the “Purus,which is supposed to be navigable to that point.
