Bridgewater, July 24.~—The run ning-gear of a virtually new buggy was badly wretched and a set of har ness was broken in many places early Saturday evening, on Weat Water Street, by a runaway horse. “Hamp” Supinger, who drove the horse from his home near Sangerville, put food in a box and took the bridle off and slipped it back on the horse’s neck and stood close by while it was eat ing. A sudden noise somewhere fright ened the animal and in the twinkle of an eye it dashed from near the intersection of Main Street out Water Street where, at the corner of the D. 8 S. Thomas warerooms and paint shop, it collided with a delivery wa gon and the impact crushed the wheels, shafts, front axle and dash board and freed the horse from the wreck without a scratch. It ran on up the river bank to near Mayor Vale's residence where it stopped and acted just as if nothing had hap pened, The Junior Order United American Mechanics of Bridgewater, are mak ing big preparations for a lawn fes tival on Saturday night of this week. They will have lots of good things to eat, a visiting band and plenty of amusements, Circus In Bridgewater “The biggest show on earth” is exhibiting here today. It came in yesterday, on the installment plan, and pitched the tenta out on the Thuma flats and it goes without say ing that the kids of the town and vicinity were running on advance spark and high gear from the time the first wagons arrived early yester day morning until night. It was a real show to see them rushing in from every direction and falling over and scraping with each other to gain vantage grounds. if it will be any satisfaction to you to know something of the expanse and power of the snore of one of Pridgewater’s prominent men read this. The aforesaid prominent man was upstairs taking his after-dinner snooze when one of the lions in the circus tent, began growling at the oppressive heat of the long time be tween meals, and his growls were interspersed with variously pitched but subdued roars. The family be low stairs said: “Listen! One of the members answered: “Oh, it's nothing but father snoring, I often hear him.' ‘Miss Georgia Hite and Miss Annie Pinkel are spending a week with Miss Gussie Landis in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Lan din, out near Craigsville. W.N. Garber went to Staunton to day, where he will spend some time on business. Miss Hazel Cline, of Dayton, was entertained here the first of the week as a guest in the W. H. Sipe home down on East Commerce Street. Mrs. Fred L. Cook, of Waynesboro, is a visitor in the H. C. Beery home, a short distance east of Bridgewater, since last week. There now! Who can write when the circus band breaks loose with It a rattling artillery splitting the wind? Bernard Furry, a salesman in the L. L. Wightman and company drug store, has gone up to Rawley Springs to spend a week with the Boy Scouts.
