Salt, Lake, July 28—Sixteen months after the first construction work was started the Salt, Lake Tian electric road (the Orem.fine) began regular operation of electric care between thre city and Prova, a distance of forty eight and onetalf miles. Yesterday marked that occasion. Since the inception of work on the line there has been expended, accord ing to the officials of the road, ap proximately 2,000,000 for. construct ion, equipment and right of way. The company owns every foot of the right of way over which the line a operated, except, of course, that portion within incorporated towns. There are thirty-two scheduled atops between Salt Lake and Provo, many of which have heretofore been with ant Grrect rail connection with either of the prevent tarngalg of the road. As the First of the electric trains, which left Salt Lake at 6:45 o'clock yester day morning, ratched the several Stops It was greeted by enthusiastic residents of the settlements. Along the line tresidents of the farmhouses waved their hands fayously as the car came in aight. The motorman enter ed into the uprrit of the occoaina and tooted his whistle vigorously. The route of the line affords a scenic opportunity that is unsually picturesque. The road traverses the Salt Lake valley almost in the center. On either side is given an uninnterrup ted view of the mountains, and after the Jordan Narrows are passed on a canoeé for mien on ether aide. Utah lake gliutena in the distance. The view of the lake is 89 superb at one point that the Qremw officials have named that place Lake View and will there erect 9 station. The present schedule of the road call in for seven trains each day be tween the terminals, the first at 6:45 a.m. and the last at 11:46 p.m. The running time is one hour and forty- Ne minutes. Just as son on the present stretch of roads put into perfect working condition, construction work will be started on the fnal extension of the road to Payson, its intimate terminus.
