Chicago Heights police are searching for a motive in the shooting death of a local man Thursday night in the 600 block of Brookline Street, Sgt. Joseph Robustelli said.Dewayne Thompson, 29, of the 300 block of Concord Street, was shot in the chest at 6:09 p.m. and pronounced dead at St. James Hospital at 6:37 p.m., Robustelli said.Robustelli said that as Thompson stood outside on Brookline Street, another man drove up on a scooter and started talking to him. After an argument ensued, the scooter driver pulled out a handgun and fired two shots at Thompson, striking him once in the chest, he said.“We do not feel it is gang related or drug related,” the sergeant said. “We don’t know if it was some macho thing or what.”Police have a suspect but no one is in custody, Robustelli said. Witnesses have helped police to identify the suspect, he said. The sergeant said the suspect is a young man who knew Thompson.This is the second shooting on Brookline Street in the past week.
