A Good Man Gene* HomeJames Moses Overstreet, son of A rehab aid and Malinda Overstreet, was born in Randolph Co., Missouri, Get. 13, 18o2. lie came with his paients to a farm north of New Boston. Linn Co., at the age of four years and spent the remainder of his life in the same community. His father was killed during the Civil War leaving him the oldest son of five small children to help his mother support the home. Despite the handicaps of his early life, he by his own efforts worked his way thru the Norman school at Kirksville, Mo., and aVo attended the University at Columbia, Mo. Later teaching in the public schools. In 1-S82, he married to Miss Victoria Logan of Randolph Co. To this union one child was born, dying with its mother about one year later. In 1884, lie was married again to Miss Fannie Todd. To this union twelve children were born, four dying in infancy. Those living are Walter. Rice, Harry and Ira Overstreet, Mrs. Hulda Thiele, Mrs. Retta Mattingby, Mrs. Faith McCollum and Mrs. Nellie Borron, all residing within a few miles of his home. Besides rearing a large family of his own he took a homeless boy in 1920, Win. Krawl, at the age of s£ven years, who still resides at the home. For the past forty-two years he has lived on the same farm about four and and one half miles north of Now Boston, Mo.
