It is your duty to participate in the primary election next Satur day. Besides the different State, county and precinct officers, there are to be elected a representative and a floater. Five large cannon were un earthed on Houston street in San Antonio last week. These cannon were evidently buried by the Span ish or Mexicans in the earlier wars. One of the guns will be placed in the Almo. It is reported from Galveston that Judge Wotan and several others killed a monster devil fish in the gulf one day last week. He was 12% feet wide, 7% feet long, 44 inches between the eyes and weighed about 1800 pounds. For_iowine is the pledge to be taken by participants in Saturday’s primary: ‘‘I am a democrat and pledge myself to support the nom inees of this primary.’’ The nom inees of this primary includes State and county officers, senators and representatives. UNDER the local option laws every community has the right to say whether the sale of intoxicat ing liquors shall be prohibited therein. Go into the democratic primary on July 25 and cast your vote for the local option system and against submission of the constitutional amendment provid ing for State-wide prohibition. We believe that local option is as near a restriction of the drink evil as legislation can provide. Joan G. Wi.Acy, chairman of the Anti-Prohibition League of Texas, gave out the following: **Many of our friends cannot un derstand that a vote for the local op tion system is not a vote for local prohibition. As a matter of fact, we have the local option system now in every part of Texas. San An tonio is just as much under local option as is Greenville. San An tonio having exercised its option (which means a local right) to al low the saloon to run under regu lation; Greenville having exercis ed its local option (or local right) to close the saloon. Hence, you will understand that a vote for the focal option system means an en dorsement of the public policy which gives each county the right to determine this question for themselves, which is the essence of local self-government.’ In accordance with the Terrell election law and by authority vest ed in me as chairman of the demo cratic executive committee of Lava ca county, Texas, I hereby order that a primary convention be held in every voting precinct in the county, on Saturday, the 25th day of July, 1908, for the purpose of selecting delegates to the county convention to meet at Hallettsville on the 1st Saturday in August 1908, each voting precinct shall be entitl ed to one delegate for every twenty five votes cast for governor in the primary election of 1906. J. C. Bron, Chairman Democratic Executive Committee, Lavaca County, Tex. Mr. Frank Neeley and Mrs. Clyde Neeley left for Uvalde Wed nesday. Mr. Joo. Miadenka and family are spending several days in Shiner this week. ‘Mrs. E. Janszen and sons, Otto and Alfred, returned from Bello last week. Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Jasek of Novobrad left Tuesday for a visit to relatives in Shiner. Moulton and Yoakum baseball teams will play a double-header here Sunday. Come out and wit ness the games. ‘The Woodmen of the World held a most elaborate celebration at Dilworth, about 12 miles west of here, Wednesday. ‘Miss Helen Kaase returned Tuesday from a three months’ visit in Swiss Alp. She was accompanied by her grandmother, Mrs.A. Ritter. A most enjoyable party was given at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Kotzebue on Friday evening. Those present were: Mrs. E. Stude man and son, Edward, Misses Elsie Jaeggli, Lizzie Preston, Elizabeth Rehmer, Gracie Preston, Maida Bunting, Annabell Balhorn, Alma Bohnenkamp, Adela Knesek, Bessie Mladenka, Emma Bohnenkamp, Hilda Schmidt, Louisa Helmcamp, Lydia Krause, Lillie Schmidt, and Messrs. Edwin Jaeggli, Author Bal horn, Clifton Arnim, August Kotze bue, Edmund Etlinger, Emil Schmidt, Eddie Balhorn, Henry Fehrenkamp and Frank Tomasko. The following is the list of the presiding officers at the various polling precincts throughout Lavaca county who will have charge of the primary election to be held on July 25: Halletteville, A. M.
