Sandy Downs, 14-year-old West Las Vegas girls’ track star, placed sixth in the long jump in the Junior Olympics regional competition in Denver last weekend. Miss Downs, competing with 7 other girls in her division, jumped 15’5””. The longest jump on record is 20'7” according to her coach, Ernestine ..Baca. Miss Baca accompanied her to the meet. Miss Downs, a West Las Vegas High tenth grader, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Downs. She was the only girl from New Mexico competing. Others were from Texas, Utah, Colorado, Arizona, Idaho, and Nevada.
