MISSOURI STATE NEWS.The Heme for £x« Con federates.Bays the Kansas City Times: Tha bequest of $.100 a year to the confederate home at Higginsvtlle, conveyed by the will of the late GroverYoung, calls attention to the fact thatthis institution has peculiar claims upon our generosity. The soldiers who wore the gray and fought and bled for the south have no claim upon the national government. Neither do they look to the state for aid.When old age or disability corneanpon them and they are no longer able to make their living the only official asylum Is the poorhouse. Vet it is not right that the people for whom the confederates fought should let them suffer and die in such a place. Men who have offered their lives fora cause should never be allowed to becomepaupers, and they will never be whilegratitude and generosity remain in the southern character.The ex-confederate home at Iliggins-yille is the only asylum worthy of theex-confederates of Missouri. Therethe once vigorous but now feeble oldveterans can live out their lives inpeace and security, working as theyhave the power and inclination, andhappy in the freedom of worry for the morrow._
