The Pontiac Sentinel:—The total population of the county has decreased in ten years eight persons! The corporation showing the largest increase is Forrest making a gain of 654 in ten years. Pontiac comes next with an increase of 557. As to the population of Pontiac, the Reform School and a suburban population of at least 800 in the settlements south of the cemetery, west of the C. A. aud the shaft town, should be included which brings the population up to 3,500 bona fide inhabitants. Fairbury is the second town in the county in population and the third may be either Forrest or Dwight as the official count may determine. The falling oif in many of the country towns is supposed to be due to removals and consolidation of farms. Newton’s increase is due to development of coal mines in the north part.K DUCAT JON A L
