On Friday evening last a brief note from Col. Stephen Miller, aceon.jiuiiicd by a notice in the St. Paul Pro*, brought the mournful intelligence of the death ol his Bon, Lieut Wesley F. Miller, who fell during Ore terrible battle at Gettysburg, while lighting; bravely with bi» company. The truth seemed too painful to realize, end doubt cherished by hope, served to soften the sad nows until subsequent confirmations proved the fir=t report only too true.Wesley Funk Miller was born in Harrisburg, I’a., April 1st, 1941. At Dickinson Seminary, Wifliamsport, ho received a fine academic eJweution. Fora short time lie served as compositor in the office of the Harrisburg Teffi/ra/ih, when in the spring of 1858 he cauic to St. Cloud and was engaged for two years in tho Dkm-oceat office, and at intervals during the subsequent year in the St Paul Pms and St. Anthony AVira establishments. In November, i8(Wr ho was ordered to join his regiment, »» Sioklcs’ Brigade, and take part iir tie active operations then to be inaugurated1—a change he had often petitioned for. In the fatal battles of Frcdoricksburg and Chaweellvfville he bore a gallant part, receiving from the officers in command the name of being the best line officer in the regiment—a praise well deserved.
