“TUE.MUI.EYACHT” COMING*EXPECTED TO PASS PORT JERVIS BY CANAL THIS EVENING*A. Party of Young Philadelphians Who are making an Excursion Over tlie 3, 11, Canal — The Rudder Grange Idea Realized— A Jolly Party Aboard.A score and a balf of wealthy young men and women from Philadelphia* are enjoying a unique trip, in what in a spirit of facetiousness has been dubbed a “mule yacht.” Prank Stockton’s Rudder Grangers thought they had the nicest and most original time that could be had on earth. The quiet persons who passed through the “ Adventure of a House Boat ” were in a river paradise which they deemed beyond the reach of anybody else.Bt it is reserved for the cruise of the “ Mule Yacht ” to show enterprising young Americans how to spend life on the water and get more fun out of it in a three weeks’ vacation than was ever before crowded into such a space of time afloat or ashore. The mule yacht consists simply of a pair of capacious canal boats fitted up with all of the facilities for comfortable living and drawn by mules instead of being propelled by steam. The party made their start from Bridesburg near Philadelphia. On Monday last they were towed to Bordentown, N. J. Prom Trenton to New Brunswick their journey was made by canal. Prom that point their mules were shipped by rail to Rondout and a Pennsylvania railroad tug took them through the bay and kills into New York Bay and up to the Battery. Prom thence they were towed to Rondout. Their journey over the Delaware Hudson* canal began Friday, and the arrival of the mule yacht at* this village may be expected by to-morrow, possibly some time this evening They will visit enroute the famous Rosendale mines, lakes Mohawk and Minnewaska in Ulster county, the gravity road in Honesdale and the famous “ Ice Caves” at the remnant of the glacier near Elienville. They will return over the same canal, be towed to Jersey City and then will go over the Morris canal to Lake Hopatcong, thence to Phil-lipsburg, N. J., and down the Delaware Division of the Lehigh Canal to Bristol, Pa., and home. The mule yacht consists of twp canal boats joined together. The forward section of one of the two boats is used as a sleeping apartment for the ladies and is fitted up with all the comforts of home. The huge hold which has transported countless tons of coal looks cosey and is cosey. The second cabin is used by the men. Less care has been devoted to this. Bunks run the whole length. The first cabin of the other boat is fitted up as a dining room and in the second cabin is the pantry, cook kitchen and a dark room where the photographic enthusiasts develop their negatives. The “mule yacht” has a good sized organ and members of the party play the banjo, flute and violin. They serenaded Rondout on Thursday and will probably serenade Port Jervis. Be on the lookout for the arrival of the mule yacht in this village.
