cause.18 GENERAL HANCOCK BICII?St. Louts, July 14.—A Globe-Democrat reporter has been looking up Gen. Hancock's Missouri property. Mr. Tom Russell, uncle of Gen. Hancock'* wiie, was found at Engine House No. 15, enjoying the southern brecse and a splint-bottomed cTiaif.“Uncle Tom,” said the reporter, “how much property does Gen. Hancock own in the city, or near here?“He don’t own any,” sententiously remarked the veteran.“Yes, but it is reported otherwise.“Well, there are forty-six acres on the barracks road ou the hill above the R ver Des Peres, alxmt eight or nine miles from the city, in a southern direction, owned by Mrs. Ada Russell, mother of General Hancock’* wife. They* call it Han-cock’i Place, because he lived there with the family. It is the prettiest place in the country. It is about two miles from the farm to the barracks. The Geneial attends to the business and controls and rents the property.•‘What is the vaiue of this property?**“They were offered 150,000 by the Catholic Church a lew months ago, which wanted to build upon the place a home for worn-out nuns.”“This place will go to the General’s wife, I suppose?” remarked the reporter.“I don’t know how the division will be mane,” aid Uncle Tom.“Do you know cny property owned by Gen. Hancock in this S, wef”“He own* eighty acres at Kimswhk, about a mile and a half from the springs, in his own name. Besides that Ham ock and an army officer, whose name 1 don't know, own a p ece of lana down in Jefferson County. He owns in his own name two p eces of land n^ar Sedalia. In one are located excellent coa! mints near Crawfords-v*l e. The railroad runs right by this piece, and the management are trying to buy it, but the Geueral won't allow it to be opened. He entered this property from the Government. The other is a piece of beautiful farming land, and upon it lives a man who puts on a certain amount of improvements every year in consideration of the rent.“lie owns a heap of property in Minnesota. He ent red the town plat of tne town of Minneapolis when in command at Fort knelling. His twin brother, HilUry, lives there and hus charge of the property, and is selling it off when it can be done profitably.
