NEW YORK, July 9. At a court of quarter-sessions of the peace let yesterday at the city hall, in and for city and county of New-York, Richard Croucher (one of the principal evidences the late trial of Lewi Weeks) was indicted of a rape committed on the body of Mar ret Miller, an infant of 13 years old, ac ompanied by circumstances of atrocity most without a parallel. The prosecu ion was conduted by the assistant attorney neral, on the part of the state.; and the c ulprit was defended by Messrs. Washington forton and Brockholst Livingston. . The science of the unfortunate girl was ample, fear, correct, and impressive. Every possi le argument,enforced by all the powers f oratory were exerted by the prisoner’s ounsel in his behalf : these were replied to Mr. Colden at considerable length, in a anner which reflected credit on the clear ers of his head and the uprightness of his art. The Jury, after hearing a summary the evidence, and ‘an explanation of the aw from the Recorder, who presided,retired about 10 minutes, and returned with a reli of Guilty. — April 12. The number of deaths in this city during the month of June, according to the Sex ons accounts, is 107, viz~ 31 Men, 19 Women and 57 Children.
