We have all been fiek, owing chiefly,1 believe, to having nothing but a little very bad beef to lire upon.”The ptrfoti who received the above letter, fays he has indubitable information, that a large majority of tne people 111 St. Augultine, and the two Floridas, are *uueh d.ffatisrted with the Spanilh government, and will undoubtedly lucceed in their attempt to throw it off, if «ney aic lupporttd by the French with any degree of fpiritA: a meet ing of the inhabitants of the city of Savannah,at tne :ity hall, OH Tburfday the id day if July, 1793 ;Mr. Sufii.hns was called to tjje chair.WHEREAS, from the mifchiefs which tile people of St. Domingo, and other French illands have experienced, from the inlurredion of their negroes and people of colour, the precautions taken by the people of South-Carolma, and of t.ie Uritilh Wclt-India iflands, to prevent the importation or landing of any fuch negroes or mulattoes amougft them, and the information the citizens now affembltd have received, that a veffel is now lying at Cockfpur, recently from Kinglton, with near one hundred negroes on DOa d, whole landing may be dangerous to the inhabitants of this ftate, with the daily expectation of many more ; therefore, to prevent the evils ihat may arife from fuflering people of this defer 1 ption, under any pretence whatever, from being introduced amongft us, the citizens pledge themfelves umniinoufly to fupport the city council in any falutary mealurcs they may adopt; and agreed upon ihc following refo utions, viz.Refo'ved, That any veffel that has arrived, or may arrive, iu this port, with ffeafoned negroes, or people of colour, from any of the Weft-India, windward, leeward, or Bahama iflands, Eaft or Weft-Florida, or any other part whatever, with feafoncd negroes, or people of colour, w ho have been one month in the faid iflands, or Eilt or Wetl-Florida, fhall not be permitted to come over the bar, nor anchor within the anchorage ground of this port; and in cafe any veffel having fuch negroes or people of colour on hoard, (hall come over the bar, fuch veffel fhall be immediately ordered to depart; and i.l calc of failure to depart in fuch term as fhall be pre-feribcJ by the city council, then the faid veffel and flavcs (hall he Cent to fea, by an order of the faid council, under the lrand and feal of the mayor, or any two •f the aldermen, in conformity to the faid order, at the expence of the owners of the faid veffel and cargo.An application of Mnnfieur Borel to council, to land negroes of the defcsiprion above alluded to, was read to the people; who unanimoully advifed the rejection thereof.The citizens recommended that the foregoing refo-tutipns be made known on the fea coaft, and pledge themfrlvcs to fupport a committee of infpedlion. to be appointed in each ward, to carry the laws and regulations into effedl.
