Letters 6 OpirThank you for making youngpeople part of future planningI would like to congratulate and acknowledge the effort of some fine people with big hearts who made the young people a major part of the recent Plan-it-Allen workshop held at the Old Fort YMCA a reality. I was indirectly involved in the process 20 years ago as a member of the Economic Development staff in the Win Moses administration during the Harvester shutdown and the famous flood of 1982.At that time there were few people of color, and no young people involved in the proposed future of Fort Wayne/Allen County. Twenty years to the day, the south/southeast side of Fort Wayne looks essentially like it did in 1982, with nothing planned for the South Side, nothing developed. The City of Fort Wayne and Allen County, in conjunction with the Old Fort YMCA and the Black College Alumni Association (BCAA), held the first ever youth workshop involving teenagers from the Black College Club (BCC). Their participation, along with other area youths, will go a long way in retaining some of our young people who might otherwiseleave Fort Wayne and the State of director of planning for the City ofIndiana.I, on behalf of the BCAA, would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the following organizations and individuals for a historic accomplishment:Fort Wayne, Dennis Donahue of Fort Wayne City Planning, the facilitators for Plan-it-Allen, Mr. James Redmond, BCC cameraman, Frost Illustrated, Joumal-Gazzette, News-Sentinel, Allen CountyThe City of Fort Wayne, Allen Public Library, WANE-TV, WPTACounty government and Ms. Brenda Robinson, executive director of the Old Fort YMCA, Ms. Denise Porter-Ross, director of public information for the mayor’s office, Ms. Pamela Holocher,TV, WISE-TV and members of the Black College Club.Thank you for a job well done!—Kevin Howell President, Black College AlumniAssociationV Is ‘ ► o ■ ♦ V. *,-■ - Vi-y ‘V.
