Attorney A. L. Young of Gibbon, was doing business to this city yes terday. ‘The first barley of the ’9S crop was ground at the Redwood Roller Mills yesterday. Frank Grubb closed a deal for the purchase of the Ackmano restaurant “at noon yesterday. A five feet four inch sidewalk is being built on Bridge street from Mill street to the bridge. M. D. Martin left for Stevens’ point, Wisconsin, and other eastern places, during the early part of the week. The post office at New Avon is now ready for business. Mail will be taken to that point from Redwood Falls. Miss Tottie Francois gave a birth day party to a number of her friends yesterday afternoon—it being her seventh birthday, Wm. Cumaiins leaves tomorrow for Milwaukee, where he will spend three weeks in inspecting the big breweries of the Bear City. Mrs. H. A. Hurd and sister, Mrs. Gunn of Mankato, the former, mother of Mrs. W.H. Webster, are visiting with the latter in this city. Mr. and Mrs. S. 8. Goodrich and Miss Myrtle Goodrich returned from their trip through the northern section s of the State Tuesday evening. The Mite society of the Presbyterian church gave a reception to Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Stuart at the residence of Dwight Bissell last evening. Carney, the Marshall pitcher, was fined 85 and costs, amounting to $7.60, for applying a bad name to Umpire Louis Fleischer, in Tuesday's game. * 4,900 pounds of the best Manila twine has just been received by A. P. or Biogen will be sold to first callers at Bingham Bros. elevator. St James O'Hara, son of John O'Hara, formerly of this city, is now on his way to the Phillipines, the having enlisted in the Crookston company of the Thirteenth regiment. The restaurant of H. C. Ackman was closed Tuesday evening. It is un derstood the Frank Grubb in nego tiating for the same with the view of opening it up under his management. A. H. Anderson of this city has been named as member-at-large of the Republican State committee, John g. Schultz of Marshall is named f4 ithe member from this judicial district. Quite a large number of people from ‘here attended Gollmar Bros.’ circus at Morton Tuesday, and all pro nounced it just what it has been in the past—one of the best 25-cent shows exteat. A letter from Mrs. W.E. Belt re ceived Tuesday, states that her father, Capt. Thos, McMillan, who has been ill with a severe attack of rheumatism at the Soldiers’ Home, was worse at the time of writing. Frank Porter, with Grigsby's Rough Riders, and Louis Junger, with the Third United States Infantry, both in the taking of Santiago, have written letters to relatives there, but the letters were written just before the march towards Santiago.
