The baggage car was smashed int) the Smoking car, driving seats and pa-te igers back in a mass toward tlio rear end, the wreck of the seats holding them fast until dead, wounded and living were alike a prey to the Bwift flames. Every possible effort was mode to rescue the unfortunate passengers. All were taken out except those • in the smoking car. Bo far as is known, eight persons met their death in this ill-fated car. One man. Rev. B B. Hal leek, an aged Universalist minister, was held fast by the feet, and despite every effort made for his removal, was consumed. He was perfectly conscious to the last. All of the train except the three rear sleeping-coaches were consumed. The 'engineers and firemen of both trains escaped with some bruises and scalds. The only one to blame was the engineer of the freighttrain. °The officials of the Erie Railway were promptly on the ground dojug everything in their power to repair the effects of the sleepy stupidity of an employe.Later.—The coroners jury find Gr.IF-ra. the engineer of the freight train alone guilty in causing the disaster. He was arrested Friday afternoou at Salamanca and taken East.
