! Flood Item?.Forn the Austin State Gazette, July 14 ISeveral poor families along 'he river have lost thoir little all b the late flood and their helpless condition should be attended to by the benevolent and sympathising. We are glad to hear, as we expected, that General Reynolds, commanding in this District, is affording aid to tho mail contractors apd telegraph lines so as to get up communication again, an soon as possible, with the ontsido world. The military are busily engaged in clearing oat a road on o.tch sido of the river above, for » new ferry to bo established there about half way between the camp and tho city. Our thanks are dae General Reynolds for his promptitude in this matter. The only mail which has come in has been a small one from Del ton. Judgo Goode camo in yesterday from Dallas in five days in a buggy. The Lampassas and Loon arc now crossable. From the oxtract we make from the Belton Journal of the 7th, it appears that, previous to that date, some injury has been done to the farms on the Lampasas ana Leon by the rise in those streams. It is probable, from what we can hear, that the heavy rains did not extend very far north of us. We understand Jadgo Good Is in our city, just from Dallas, and reports that the Brazos at Waco was npt high. Probably the freshet did not extend to the Brazos or Trinity. The 8an Marcos, Guadalupe and Comal have been very high and much damage bos been done. The bridge at New Braunfels, over the ComaL has been washed away and, we presume, the ferry on the Guadalupe broken up temporarily. We have no oertain news from San Antonib, except that the water was high, stayed up for nearly a day, and has done much damage. Bastrop seems not to have suffered much.About nine miles below us on the river, in tho neighborhood of Mr. Coalson, a widow lady, pame not remembered, with six small children, driven from her house, which was swept by the high water, took refage in a tree with all her little ones. As the flood brought along ft pee rails and drift wood, she caught them and constructed a sort of raft around the tree, so that when one of her children slept and fell, it was caught by the platform below. Hfire the heroic mother, with all her precious treasures, remained for twenty-foar hoars, .until Mr. Coalson constructed a boat and took - them all safely to shore.Nolan creek, which runs through this place has been impassable since Sunday until this (Thursday) moaning. Wo have had no mails since Monday, and, judging from appearances* we shall expect none for some time to come.Since the abovo was written we have news from Tennessee Valley, which is situated some six pr eight miles abovo this place on the Leon. The report is that most of the farms have been overflown, fenoing washed oft and thejcrops otherwise severely damaged. Among those who have suffered we hear the names of Mr. Thom 48. Rev. Whitely on the Leon, Mr. Isaacs on Lampasas, and Colonel Hawkins on Nolan creek. It has been impossible, up to the present time, to procure reliable information of tho extent of damage done, from the faot that the streams are still impaHsable, but we muoh fear that it has been heavy on all the streams below.—Bdton Journal, July 7. _
