A U. S. Surveying Expedition.-Aportion of the surveying expedition which left Stockton lust January under the command of Von Schmidt, arrived at the town of Sonora a few days ago.j nThe expedition crossed the mountains, l)y the Merced route, and were engaged until April 1st in surveying cast of Owen’s Lake ; since then, one hundred and eighty miles north, to the Utah line. The expedition have already ‘run’ fifteen hundred miles. In-j dians were abundant hut poacahlc Mr. Bates and four others wero disoatched for provisions, to Sonora. They left 1 Mono Lake on the 2d and arrived there on the Gth of July. They wore coin-polled to leave the road ou account of the depth of snow, and beat their way «ui the mountain sides. The party suffered greatly from the reflection of the sun on the snow. Their eyes and faces were rod and swollen, and appeared a? though burnt by fire.
