A 15-year-old Carrizozo boy has been released after he stabbed his father to death Monday night. Officers said the boy, Gerald Wayne Singletary, 15, stabbed his father, Elija Elmo Singletary, 39, with a large-size pocket knife as Mr. Singletary was attempting to choke his wife in the kitchen of the apartment they rented at a bout 9:30 p.m. Police said the elder Singletary had been drinking, both whiskey and beer, and had been beating the two younger children, aged six and nine, as well as abusing Mrs. Singletary. The boy stabbed his father high in the back and the six-inch blade of the knife apparently cut arteries. A doctor was called but pronounced Mr. Singletary dead from loss of blood when he arrived. A ccoroner’s inquest Tuesday morning held cause of death to be the “result of a knife wound.” Assistant district attorney Dick Parsons of Ruidoso said Tuesday afternoon he had decided to file no charges, and the district judge and district attorney concurred. The boy, he said, would be releas ed Wednesday morning. Parsons said Tuesday afternoon the boy was “shook up . . . terri bly wrought up... sorry .. . re morseful” as he was held in coun ty jail. Mr. Singletary was a native of Louisana, and will be taken there for burial. He and his family mov ed to Carrizozo in February of this year, and he was a Civil service employe at Stallion Site. Sheriff’s officers, state police and Carrizozo city policeman Con cepcion (Choncho) Morales im mediately investigated the stab bing. Examination of the younger children, said state policeman Jim Clayton, showed bruises over their bodies, apparently inflicted with a belt. The slim, blond boy, Gerald, had only a curfew violation against him and was generally well thought of, Clayton added,
