Private Coles has been one of my first* aid boys for several months and has done excellent work. You perhaps knew that a few weeks ago he was recommended for the military cross, which I am sure will be granted. Had he lived he would have again been recommended. While you grieve his loss, you will be proud to know the manner of his death, for liis fatal blow came while attending to fallen comrades under heavy shell lire. lie was a quiet, constant, faithful worker, one who knew his duty and never hesitated to perform it, many times in the face of deadly fire. Mrs. Coles you may well be proud of him. and I can tell you I am, too. The wounds were fatal from the start. He was taken-to a field ambulance hospital, where lie died the following day. If there is any further in-format ion I can give or bo of any assistance in any way I ^ shall be only too pleased. Yours ^ sincerely,Captain J. E. M. Askill,M. O. 2nd C. M. 11. !
