Blind tiiger whiskey and g pistol toting are assigned as the prime j causes of these tragedies, aud the most deplorable feature is the failure of the courts to give the murders the maximum penalty of the law. In a majority of instances the trials will result in an acquittal or a hung jury, and public sympathy seems to be with the criminal classes.A reckless class of citizenship, bordering almost on out’awry, inhabits these two counties, especially along the lines of the new railroads built through that section, and among this class there are men who have no more remorse of conscience for killing a human being than they have for killing a rabbit. Their constant equipment is a bottle of whiskey in one pocket and a pistol in the oilier, and the celebrated Sullivan Hollow feud in Smith county is a tame affairas compared with this new carnival of crime which lias sprung up in the railroad construction and logging camps. The only fortunate feature of the whole affair is the fact that the slayers and the slain are of the lowest class of humanity and the 1 riddance of them by violent means is not ot great loss to the common-
