Organization of the Btwell Comt) A|r!nU«ril lt;*luh—Officers Elected and t'omMlttee* Ap* pointed—The Pnrpoten of the Clnb.Beale, Ala., July 19.—The farmers of Russell county were in convention this morning In Beale at 10 o'clock for the purpose of organizing a county agricultural club.A temporary organization was had by calling Colonel J. M. Brannon to the chair and Mr. W. J. Boykin to act as secretary. After an explanation of the objects of the meeting, the names of a large number of fanners were enrolled.On motion of Mr. W. M Burt, a committee consisting of Messrs. W. M. Burt, W. L. Nlsbet. J. H. BickerstafT, T. R. Leslie and Monroe Calhoun, was appointed to draft a suitable constitution and by Jaws, and recommend names for permanent officers. After an absence of half an hour the committee returned and reported a constitution and by-laws, which were adopted after some discussion and some little change. The constitution sets forth as its purposes—“being the mutual improvement ofits members, morally socially and financially.”Mr. F. S. Nisbet, of Oswichee, was made president, Mr. C. R. Illges, of Olennviile, vice-president, and Mr. \V. J. Boykin secretary and treas urer. A second vice-president from each beat was also chosen to aid in furthering the objects of the club.“Russell County Agricultural Club” was chosen as the name.The meeting adjourned for dinner at half-past 12, and convened again at 2 o’clock, when the motion to appoint an executive committee was then offered. The chair appointed as that committee Messrs. C. R. Illges, W. M. Burt and T. R. Leslie. It was resolved to offer an exhibit at the Plate fair, and to ftirtber thhi object committees were appointed in each heat to aid in collecting the necessary articles. The following were elected as delegates to the state fair to be held in Troy August 3d, viz: C. R. Illges, T. R. Leslie, L. C. Cooper, W. H. Broyles, R. E. Lindsey. Alternates—E. Calhoun, 8. R.Pitts, II. L. Dudley, C. E. Ingram and O. L. Peu-c ock.The club will meet again on the 5th of October, at which time the committees will rcportand perfect arrangements for the exhibits.W. M. Burt offered the following resolution, which was adopted with much enthusiasm :“We, the Russell County Agricultural Club, in regular convention assembled, do hereby enter our protest and remonstrance against the suspension of the fourth article, known as the long and short haul clause of the interstate commerce bill, as being unjust and inimical to the best interest of the formers; and ask that it be put at once into Aill force and elfect.”The club then adjourned to meet In Beale on the 5th of October next.
