On reaching Black foot's, (Crow) campon the Yellowstone they found cnmjed with him Bear Tilth's tribe of Crows, and with Bear Tooth, Mountain Chief, histwo sons and two nephews, renegades from the Blackfeet, who were expelled from their tribe for killing Little Dog and have been accepted into Bear Tooth’stribe of Crows. These are the five Indians who killed Col. Bozeman. They lwast of it, and have his horses. They say they ate dinner with Bozeman and Cover ; that they intended to kill them, and steal the horses ; that Cover was suspicious: left them eating, and went to saddle the horses: that while he was doing this, the same one w ho killed Little Dog. their own chief, shot Boze-Suan twice and killed him. The remainder of their account tallies with Cover's. Passing down the river they stole a horse from Smith, who had a trading post below, and returned to Bear Tooth's camp. Through the intercession ofBlackfoot, they gave Smith his horse. In their herd, lie and Uichard saw and counted thirteeu head of horses, branded. M. M.,recently stole from the militia. These they refused to give up. and said if the soldiers wanted them, let them come anil try to take them. Blackfoot has seventy or seventy-five lodges; Bear Tooth has eighty lodges. Bear Tooth has all the worst Indians, the most influence and the largest band. Blackfoot gave them to understand that if Bear .Smooth induces his band to join the league, lie will abandon them altogether.
