The Lechrue Hystis and the Smokey Nutins reported seeing funnel clouds over their ranches about 18 miles northeast of Deming Sunday. The funnel did not touch the ground or do any damage. But the possibility of a tornado “really scared them, reported Carolyn Gross, sister of Mrs. Tom Hyatt. Joe Bill Nurm said he didn't see the funnel since he was away from the ranch at the time, but his father, Smokey, said it dipped down several times and was “gruesome looking.” It finally disappeared into the clouds.
