Navy Petty Officer Second Class John E. Geer II, husband of the former Miss Joyce C. Anderson, Cambridge R.D.5, is now serving aboard the amphibious cargo ship USS Durham in support of Marine Corps redeployment from Vietnam. During a 34-hour loading period his ship’s crew loaded over 2,037 tons of Marine equipment and material at Danang, Vietnam. The cargo will be off-loaded at Pearl Harbor and Long Beach, Calif. Richard J. Hock, 24, son of Mr. and Mrs. James A. Hock, Chandlersville, R.D. 1, was recently promoted to Army Captain at Ft. Hood, Tex. Capt. Hock is assigned as an operations officer in Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 50th Infantry of the 2nd Armored Division. He received his B.B.A. degree from Ohio University, Athens, in 1969. His wife, Carol, lives at 27700 White Road, Wickliffe, Ohio, which was in session “eb. 5 to May 23, Col. Anson 3. Cook, Columbus, executive director of Ohio Peace Officers Training Council, made the presentation. Howard J. Devol, president of Noble County Chamber of Commerce, was presented a certificate of appreciation by Coleman, who also presented public service awards to news media. These included Mrs. Benton K. Cochran, reporter for the Marietta Times; Mrs. Ivan Ziler, reporter for the Daily Jeffersonian; and Clarence J. Estadt, of the Caldwell Journal- Leader. A memorial poem was read by Lawyer for police officers who lost their lives in 1970-71. Sawyer, in his talk, said a police officer's duty is to en force the law impartially, and without malice at all times. He detailed what is required of a law officer. Certificates were presented to officers who successfully completed the peace officers training class, including Richard Burlingame, William A. Coleman, Kenneth Earl Gill, Ray Keylor, Gerald Ramage, Landon Smith, Wayne Stott sberry, Leland Truax, all of Noble County, Manson Keylor and George Zonker, Woodsfield. Eligible for certificates, but not present, were James Hall and Ronald Hamilton, both of Lowell, Thomas Clark and Lawrence Macenko. Merrimakers Caldwell Merrimakers Extension Club will meet at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the floral hall at Noble County fairgrounds. Each person is asked to bring a covered dish and own table service. Mrs. Richard Ball is president. Camp Meeting Mr. and Mrs. Charles Laughlin and family, Mrs. Donna Davis and daughters, were among those who attended the camp meeting at Mansfield recently. Reported is Mrs. E. Dean (MaeBelle) Ziler, 838 Seneca St., Massillon, is reported seriously ill. She has many relatives and friends here. ‘Curt’ Severns
