Hiccough kingKnown as the “Hiccough King,” William Bill Relf traveled throughout the Mid - West treating victims striken with hiccoughs and could1 boast that nine out of the ten. patients treated recovered.Relf learned his method of treatment from an old Sioux Indian in Sioux Falls, S. D., and it consisted of a special way of manipulating throat muscles. He attributed the cause of hic-coughs to “nerves and stomach trouble.” There was never any fee charged for his services, and«eit accepted only what hi® patients offered in gratitude for relief.One of the patients cured by Keif was a woman in Minneapolis who had 'been suffering from hiccoughs for 21 days. He was also called to Rochester, Minn., when all other treatment had failed to cure a case of hiccoughs.The only other person who knew how to cure by this meth-od was his daughter, Mrs. Josephine Yerkes.
