Pettit Back of Big Project—Work To Begin Withinj i Frwport, July 19.—The meadowlandIn the Bay near Jones Inlet, owned by Stephen Pettit, is soon to be reclaimed . and developed, according to statement by Mr. Pettit Sunday when he visited « the location on a tour of inspection.With him were Leo Fishel, (.eorge 1 Morton Levy and George Benson Smith. The old Hempstead Bay Yacht Club stands on the spot known as Pooo Island,'* named by Miss Ruth Van ■ Riper some time ago when the place t was mapped out into lots and streets.It Is the plan of Mr. Pettit to remodel [ the Club House and use it as a centre of the development. Board walks will be laid and the lots fixed for immediater■sale with probably a few cottages as a starter.A new dock is to be built and by next summer an attractive summer colony of cottages will surround the old yacht club. The spot is ideal for asummer colony as It Is right at Jones* i Inlet and affords easy access to the1 ocean or to Freeport.It may be the beginning of tlie de-' j velopment of all the meadows that are1 now going to waste.
