Wales, keeper of the Benvcr Tail light and well known In this city as well lib In Jamestown, died Wednesday evening at the New-iiorl Hospital. Hu had been suffering from n complication of diseaaea for sometime, and about three weeks u#o went to the hospital, where he-steadily failed. fCaptain Wales was a boh of the: late Captain William |W. and CaLtorliiu I Wales and was bom In this city tilt years ago, his parents then occupying what i.s now the lJc*!lmm House on Pelham street. l£e had been in the lighthouse sendee for 30 veara, and at Beaver Tail light for 2$ years, having been employed at Tompkinsvillc, N. Y., and on board steamer Mistletoe two years. Ho was assistant keeper under his father. Captain W. W. Wales; his brother. Captain John Wales, and Captain Joshua A. Overton, and succeeded to the keeper ship November 1. 1914, when Hie last named retJred serving in that rapacity until his death. During his illness George Manders, the assistant keeper, has been In charge of the light.Captain Wales, by his courteous and companionable nature made friends wherever he went, and the many visitors to the. light found him always willing to Ktmw them about and explain Lhe working of iln* ligiu anil other apparatus connected with the station. ,H(i also made many friends in Newport am! was cordiully received along the water front and on the streets whenever ho came to the city.He whs a member of SI.
