[held ‘at Galveston, Texas, last Thursday and Friday, was a cred itable affair, especially when com pared with the negro press conven tion held at St Louis, Mo., at the same time. ‘The Galveston meet ing congratulated the state of Texas on the friendly relations ex isting between the races, assuming that the few cases of wrong and oppression against colored persons are exceptional—condemns synch law. In regard to railroad travel, the meeting declared in favor of social separation, with equal ac commodations in different apart ments, and not for social equality with the whites. It resolved against immoral teachers and preachers, opposed emigration from the state, and even from one county to another, except for the best of reasons. Politically, the colored voters are said to be solid in the republican party.
