Many commonizations are sent to us e for publication, and although we cannot publish all, we select some of them, and may publish more hereafter. The cause of Temperance and’ good morals ‘has many, strong advocates, and claim’ the serious attention of all, more especial of parents. It is to be regretted, that those persons who are limited to retail liquor, do not pay more attention to the law, in as liquor to those who are intoxicated, in the habit of becoming so, and to om witiers, even children, out of their estab lishiments. ‘These complaints are not a tone heres but they come from every part of the County. But very few applications for license i ate Pee made this year, and if we are rightly informed, those who retail with our Lienpe, will have a busy tump of it, the next two Courts. ‘The law makes it the duty of Grand Jurors to take cogni zaned of offences against the provisions of the Liguor law, as 10 cases of felonies.— The penalties are a heavy fine, to which maybe adled imprisonment. Look at for Tietkérs. An ilwee who are more than six wreaths in atredh for subseription will find a red cross marked on their paper, alte thore in arrears for job work. £= Owing to the bury time with far weirs, and the fine gather the crowd on Saturday last at the Zutification Meeting was not as large as expected. The [lol ton team came in fine style with four pair of mules, decorated with flags, crowded with Passengers, bringng their “Boon or,, with them, ion. Wm. S. Holman was present and adhessed the crowd at the Baptist Church. Being kept busy with job work at the office, we did not hear the speech, bat understand from others, that it was full of argument and convincing proof, one of the Judges happiest efforts. a Its We are authorized to ‘announce the nave of James Shields as an Inde pendent Candidate for the office of Coun ty commissioner. £ 2 Complaints are made to us, re peatedly, by subscribers, that they can not get their papers regularly, at Cross Plains. We have never yet missed mail ing the paper regularly every week, and are equally confident, the fault is not at the Versailles Post Office.
