According to Principal Isaiah J. Whitley of the Plateau Institute, Pla teau,Ala., the terrible fire that swept Plateau last March left the Institution in a deplorable condition for the re opening of that institution another year. In this appeal, for aid to rebuild he has the following to say: “We appeal to the white and colored friends of education far and near to come to our rescue in assisting us to rebuild our school. The great fire that swept Plateau in March left us with out a place to open a school next Oc tober and not a dollar to rebuild with. “Our school was doing a great serv ice to the colored people in this sec tion of Alabama. We had seventy-five girls taking domestic science, sewing, mafia and general household arts, fifty boys studying agriculture and manuel arts, and one hundred and fifty other little tots In the lower grades. All of this work has been brought to a com plete halt on account of having no facilities to teach, tanga nothing of the farm and domestic fence extension work that is carried on throughout Mobile county and some half dozen adjacent counties, “The budget of our school for another year calls for thirty-five thousand dol lars. Practically none of this money has been subscribed. Our work is completely paralyzed. Will our friends let this work suffer the need of funds to prosecute it? “We appeal to all churches, societies, lodges, companies, corporations and in dividuals to send us a donation at once, “Send all money to Mr. J. Leslie Tay lor. Union Savings Bank, Mobile, Ala., or Isaiah J. Whitley, principal, Plateau, Ala.”
