The Longhorn Jazz Festival, which stars the biggest array of talent ever to tour the nation, comes to the Sam Houston Coliseum, Sunday, July 20.South African pop trumpeter Hugh M..sakela and his quintet, the “’apDy jaz*: sounds ofYoun^-Holt Unlimited and theblu i of B. B. King, combine with tne modem jazz sounds of the Miles Davis Quintet and the powerful, moving songs of NinaSimone.The exciting new world of contrasting music performed by the nine-membered group who calls itself Blood, Sweat and Tears will highlight the performance.This is, perhaps, the most diversified talent line-up ever to perform at the Longhorn Jazz Festival in its four years of bringing the great names of jazz to Texas.The broad spectrum of music which fans can enjoy in one four-hour span from one stage is the source of the real festival “experience” which is difficult to find in any other concert focus.The festival is a non-profit Texas educational project witharea.To date, Blood Sweat and Tears have topped all record charts with their recording of “You Made Me So Very Happy” and “Spinning Wheel.”The jazz festival was founded in Austin in 1966 by 25 Austin civic leaders.
