Louisville, Ky., July 17— The reading ability of children in the Bell County area has im proved 60 per cent since a book mobile began to operate there two years ago, according to Mrs. Barry Bingham. Mrs. Bingham, chairman of the Kentucky Bookmobile Project, said the information was given her by the superintendent of Bell County Schools. Harry W. Schacter, chairman of the project’ s finance campaign, told of a plan to raise Sete from 47th place to first in the nation in providing books to its’ citizens. The goal is to do this in one year. The $800,000 campaign has 1 phases; 1. The state will be asked to earn $200,000 for additional 2. Private citizens and corpora tions will be asked for $300,000 to pay for 100 bookmobiles. 3. Local communities will be eaked to pay $300,000 operating of the bookmobiles. Schacter said 18% eee already have been pledged. how are operating in Kentuaky provided by the Friends of Ken tucky Libraries and the Kentucky Library Association.
