Raiders Take Booze From Mt. Greenwood'I he law enforcement league, recently organized in Morgan Park and the immediate neighborhood, has begunto function with gratifying results. Several weeks ago, members of the clergy and leading eitiaens of Morgan I’ark banded together to wage war on the illicit booze ring which has been operating in and around Mt Greenwood. The sale of bootleg whiskey had , bcome so apparent that steps weretaken to obliterate the menace.A mass meeting was held at the Baptist church and prominent city dry ; leaders were heard on the question. Later a call was made upon sheriff Hoffman, which resulted in the endorsement of that official, in the fight against the rum runner.As a result of the organized methods of combating the force forty deputy sheriffs, under the direction of Otto Gneuwuch, lead a raid against someof Mt. Greenwood’s booze dispensersTuesday night, which was responsiblefor the accumulation of one hundred , gallons of moonshine of all assortments. Eleven road houses and sev-eral soft drink parlors were also entered by court orders.' Tony Page’s home netted the party several gallons of liquor when one of the men, who became suspicious moved a baby’s cradle in the room and discovered a small trap door which lead to the cache.Kelly’s place at 111th and Troy, was entered by the officials, O’Malley’s, Bob(Continued on page 5)
