ON BANKS OF OKOBOJ!Annual Outlets Is Beina Enjoyed— Cnmp Elle Fwil of Pleasures, VI* yaelty and Frogs-Tlie Trip and. Getting settled.Manhattan Beach, Lake Okoboji, July 14.—The boys and girls of Christ Episcopal church choir went into camp on the shore of beautiful Lake Okoboji at 10 o’clock Wednesday night and are now thoroughly enjoying their annual outing. We started from Waterloo with high spirits in a special car yia the B. C. R. N. early Wednesday morning and after a short stay at Vinton had a jolly ride of 200 miles north, through as fine a country as a traveler can find anywhere. and arrived at “Hotel Orleans,” Spirit Lake, at 5 o’clock in the afternoon. Nothing remains of this once popular resort but the railway station and a pile of brick and mortar marking the spot where the hotel stood. Arrangements had been made for a steamboat to meet us here, but it failed to come until 8 o’clock, and the time was pleasantly spent in singing by the old members and in killing snakes by the small boys. The’ moon rose full and bright and the trip of twelve miles over the placid lake filled all with happy impressions. Manhattan hotel and park are not running this season, but we were met at the wharf by Mr. Bradshaw, the superintendent of the place, who welcomed us most cordially and upon learning that we intended to pitch our tents that night invited the the- party to occupy one of the large cottages until morning, a favor most gratefully accepted. The next day he tendered us beautiful camping grounds as the lot. we had possession of was too small, and in many ways contributed to our comfort.Manhattan Beach is located, at the north end of Lake Okoboji on a high bluff bank, a good deal like Sans Souci, and is one of the most beautiful places imaginable. Oak shade trees, nice grass and the sandy beach for bathing, make an ideal summer resort, while the hotel, numerous cottages, splendid water, (including a mineral spring a half mile away) and an accommodating farmer nearly furnish ample comfort for the seeker of rest and pleasure.
