A VILLIANOUS ATTEMPTFrank Moeller, a Fainter, Wm Attacked By A Tramp With. A Kuifo and Had A Narrow Escape*Last Wednesday at about 8-30 o’clock in the evening, a man called at the bouse of Frank Moeller, on Dubuque street, opposite the First Ward school bouse, and asked of Mrs Moeller where Jones lived. Mrs. Moeller directed him to a house occupied by some now neighbors, saying that she thought he lived there. The man left, bnt came back in about a half hour, and after rapping at the door tried to turn the knob but was met by Mr. Moeller, who inquired what he wanted He wanted Jones again Mrs Moeller identified him as the same man and this aroused the suspicious of Mr Moeller He followed him out to the gate saying that he would go with him to where Mr. Jones lived. At this the man used an oath and tried to get up a quarrel. After some fifteen minutes of bad language and threats, and still refusing to leave the yard, Moeller struck him At this the fellow made a stab at him with a knife, cutting two holes, one three inches long and the other two inches long, in Moeller's shirt Moeller then struck the man in the breast. The tramp started to run, with Moeller after him. They had not run very far before the neighbors called after him that other tramps were trying to get into the back door. He then ran back and scared off the new intruders. The gang securednothingThe plan seemed to be to attract the Moeller's attention, by whatever means in front, while the men behind broke into the house and did their dirty work. Allhough Moeller struck the first blow, he was blameless, for the fellow refused toleave the yard, and had Moeller turned to go into the house, be would have been struck in the back, for the villian had his band on the knife in his pocket all the while It was a narrow escape indeed.
