New Bremen, July 16.—Close and exciting races featured the dirt track program held here Sunday. A crowd of 8,500 saw the four events. Twenty-eight cars qualified for the races and 22 cars competed in the events. Shorty Cantlon won the first 10- mile race in 9:10.4 with Joe Baker second and Bill Rickman third. The second event was a 20-mile event. Bill Chittum finished first in 18:49 with Shorty Cantlon second and Bob Carey third. Joe Baker and Tom Wall collided in the thirteenth lap but neither driver was injured. Al Jones won the second 10-mile event in 9:43 with Harry Daugher ty finishing second and Phil Ma loney third. Shorty Cantlon capped the last 10-mile event. His time was 9:15.2. Bill Chittum finished second. Both drivers got the green flag at the same time but Chittum was pocketed on the last lap. Al Jones was third and Bob Carey fourth. Ralph Ormsby qualified but was forced out with engine trouble. Phil Maloney turned over on the elev enth lap of the last race. He suff ered a scalp wound, an injured knee and ankle.
