BY ATLANTIC CITY’S SURF Mid-July Finds The Popular Re sort Well Filled. MANY BALTIMOREANS’ MECCA Well-Known Residents Of The Mon umental City Registered At The Numerous Hotels By The Sea. [Special Dispatch to the Baltimore Sun.) Atlantic City, N. J., July 15.Mid-July finds Atlantic City well filled with visitors. The crowd was greatly increased by the in coming trains this afternoon and tomor row promises to witness as large a crowd here as came to spend the Fourth of July holidays. A number of Baltimoreans came down on today’s trains. Gov. Robert Glenn, of North Carolina, has arrived at the Hotel Shoreham for a few days’ stay. He was obliged to run over to Albany to have a conference with Gov ernor Higgins and stopped here on his way back home. Gov. Jefferson Davis, of Ar kansas, will arrive here in a couple of days to keep him company. Rooms at the Hotel Jackson have been reserved for the South ern Governor and his party. W. D. Morgan, a wealthy New Yorker, has just been spending some time in Atlan tic City. Before leaving he said he had never visited a place that had attack him so favorably as Atlantic City. “It is one of the places that travelers cannot miss and claim a complete education,” said he. James Jeffries, of New Orleans, who is registered at the Hotel Brighton, is not re ceiving half the attention that would be be stowd upon James Jeffries of California, of pugilistic fame, if he were to come over to Atlantic City. Yet the frst Mr. Jeffries is a former Governor of Louisiana and a man of great wealth, refinement and culture. Former Governor Jeffries will remain at the shore several weeks. Col. Charles Boynton, chief of the Asso ciated Press service in Washington, who has been spending several weeks at the Ho tel Wiltshire, will leave here next Monday for the mountains of Vermont, where he will spend the balance of the summer. Congressman Henry Wood, of St. Louis, is a visitor at the Hotel Chalfonte. Mr. and Mrs. Douglass Gordon, of Balti more, who have been spending several weeks at the Hotel Dennis, sailed for Europe a few days ago. The junior members of the family will remain at the shore in the care of Mrs. Gordon's mother, Mrs. Clark. Dr. George Edward Reed, president of Dickinson College, is having a little outing at the shore. He and his family are regis tered at the Leland for a week or so. Four Girl Auto-Tourists. Shrouded in dust masks and enveloped in long tourists’ coats, the friends at home would have had work in recognizing the Misses Helen M. and Ruth Wile, Florence Miller and Evalyn Hays, of Rochester, N. Y., as they chug-chugged down St. Charles Place on Monday morning on the last leg of an 800-mile automobile ride and came to a stop in front of the Hotel Raleigh. The fair quartet left Rochester a week ago, dis pensing with the formality of a chauffeur, and made the journey to this city by easy stages, traveling only during the day. They followed the cross-country route from Rochester to Albany, thence down along the Hudson to New York city, where they crossed the river into New Jersey, and thence down the coast route to Atlantic City. The young ladies took turns at op erating a big, powerful machine, and that they accomplished their journey without ac cident is a proof of their ability. One of the most distinguished arrivals of the week is Manuel Alvarez Calderon, Min ister to the United States from Peru, who is at Young's Hotel for a rest of several days. Willard Spenser, the composer of “Miss Bob White,” “Little Tycoon” and several other musical comedies, has returned to his home in St. David's, Pa., after having spent several days pleasantly at the shore. Army And Navy Represented. Army and navy life is well represented at Atlantic City. Col. H. L. Bruce, of the Ar tillery Corps, stationed at Fort Monroce, is spending a 10-days’ leave at the Glad stone, Commander and Mrs. H. M. Mc Hodges, of the Navy, are spending a short period at the Hotel Chelsea. Col. F. E. DeCourcey, of New York, a retired army officer, with a record as an Indian fighter, is a recent arrival at the Hotel Shelburne. Major T. L. Rhoads, United States Army, was an over-Sunday visitor at the Shel burne, where he was entertained by his cousin, W. H. McCormick, district passen ger agent of the Reading Railroad. Capt. L. M. Nuttman, United States Army, is spending a leave at the Hotel helsea. Pay Director Read Frazer, of the Navy, now stationed at League Island, Pa., was a one-day visitor during the week. In Honor Of Miss Brown. One of the pretty social events of the week was the euchre and dance held at the Hotel Rudolf. It was tendered by Don Emanuel Mautro, an attache of the Spanish legation at Washington, in honor of Miss Gertrude A. Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Brown, of Baltimore. More than 70 tables were used for the euchre, which was followed by a dance in the Japanese music room at the hotel. Notes About Marylanders. Mr. and Mrs. Jesse B. Riggs, Clinton Riggs and Miss Symington, of Baltimore, are at the Hotel Brighton for an extended season. Mr. and Mrs. James B. Brown, of Balti more, are spending some time at the Hotel Majestic. Mrs. M. E. Danforth, accompanied by Miss Agnes H. Kerney, of Washington, are among the visitors at the Hotel Bel mont. They will remain during July. Among the Marylanders at the Hotel New England are Malcolm Mitchell, Mrs. John Schute, 8. M. Osborne, Miss Eva Os borne and Miss Virginia Courtney, all of Aberdeen. Thomas B. Williams, one of the proprie tors of the Hotel Strand, is entertaining J. Edward Davis, a well-known merchant of Northeast, Md. Among the prominent residents of the Monumental City who are here for an ex tended stay are Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Mc Comas, Mr. and Mrs. J. P. McComas and Masters Parker and Donald McComas.
