A breach of contract suit recently was filed in Division No. 1 of Jasper County Circuit Court by Joplin’s Freeman Hospital, a not-for-profit cor poration, seeking $34,343 which the hospital alleges the Ozark Gateway Council of Govern ments still owes on the pur chase of the building that for merly housed the hospital operations and facilities. Freeman claims the council has refused to pay the sum which the hospital maintains it agreed to do. The petition claims the sum sought represents Freeman’s liability under the Hill-Burton Act, which as a federal grant program, provided help in financing expansion of the old hospital building in the 200 block of Sergeant Avenue. The petition maintains the liability for repayment of Hill-Burton money was determined by the Missouri Division of Health. Ozark Gateway purchased the old Freeman Building almost two years ago for its own use and to provide office space to other governmental agen cies. The hospital in its suit said the hospital accepted Ozark Gateway’s offer to buy the property, some 20 lots and im provements, for a price of $35,000 cash and the assumption of the Hill-Burton money obligation. It is further main tained that a letter accepting the offer constituted a contract. The petition said Ozark Gateway paid the $35,000 and the property was conveyed. An exhibit accompanying a petition indicated that Ozark Gateway at the time of the offer to purchase estimated the Hill- Burton obligation at ap proximately $45,000. Dissolution Filings Petitions for dissolution of marriage were recently filed in Jasper County Circuit Court by: Division No. 1 - Louis I. Stovern, petitioner, and Knute M. Stovern.
