Chief Petty Officer Lyle D. Sowers was bom one of four children to Hattie and Walter Sowers mi April 19th, 1924 in Henderson, Iowa.Lyle was a member of the Methodist Church of Henderson and attended school at Henderson High. A proud native Iowan,Chief Sowers served his country honorably as a career member of the United States Navy.During his career, Lyle served throughout the world during World War n, the Korean Conflict and in Vietnam. His decorations include The Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal and four Good Conduct Medals. After 30 years active and Inactive duty the Chief wasretired and placed on the Temporarily Disabled Retirement List on Oct. 1, 1975 until his departure on the Fourth of July, 1977.He married Joy Prine on November 17,1972. Lyle was a loving father. He is survived by his wife, Joy Lou and five children: Scott, Ward and Jane all at home; Kathy Price of Phoenix, Arizona and Susan Veneck of Omaha,Nebraska; one brother, Lynn, of Carson; one granddaughter, Joy, of Phoenix; a devoted sister-in-law, Azalea Sowers; brother-in-law, Robert Ryan, and many nieces and nephews.Lyle was preceeded in death by his parents, two brothers, Carl and an infant, and one sister, Pauline.
