B. C. Bristow, agent for the Abilene Southern Railroad Co. here, said an application to dis continue the agent and station service here had been filed with the Railroad Commission in Austin. A hearing has been set for July 29, in Austin. M. L. Smith, assistant vice president of Texas and Pacific of Dallas, said the agency would be maintained in Winters and business would be handled for both towns. The Abilene Southern is a branch of T P and runs from Abilene terminating in Ballin ger. The Abilene Southern was es tablished in Ballinger in 1909 and was known as the Morgan- Jones Line. The station, built of native stone in the eastern part of town, still stands. Both freight and passenger service were offered. Passenger service was discontinued about 25 years ago. In 1925, T P bought out the Morgan-Jones Company and the branch became known as the Abilene Southern. Bristow said in recent years there have been no regular runs. At times there would be only one or two runs a week but traffic usually picked up during the grain season.
