Mrs. Peter Ward, our tele phone operator, visited Mrs. Geo, Schrader of Oriole last week. The Misses Elder of Dexter and Misses Edna and Daisy Jar boe of Paducah, Ky, are guests at the house party of their aunt, Mrs. James Ward here. Mr. John Cody, accompanied by William Burke of Tell City, passed through this burg on last Wednesday. Mr. Virgil Bryant, who spent the past week at Mr. Wm, Jen. King’ of Mill Dam Ford returned to Cannelton last Friday on the Steamer Tarascon. Mr. Bryant is making good with the Cannel ton Sewer Pipe Plant. Mr. Lewis James, eo-assensor of this township was at Derby last Saturday. Rev. Father Boland, who spent the past week visiting his par ents at Terre Haute is back again looking exceedingly well. Quite a crowd from Leopold at tended services at Galey’s last Sunday. Mr. John Gleeson, ex-trustee, who is enlarging his house, en joyed the novelty of living un der the sky for a roof during the protracted rainy spell, he having removed the old roof. Mr. John Cody was a welcome caller at St. Mark’s last Tuesday. Mr. Emil Strahl was driving on our streets last Sunday in his new eighty-five dollar buggy. The swell society event of the season was pulled off Friday night by our young people under the management of W. Matthias Ward, consisting of a day-ride to Mt. Pleasant. The affair was up-to-date, each rider being pro vided with a bell or horn. This is quite an ovation in our prosaic community and the natives were much perplexed to know just what was on. Mr. John Tarker of Canton, QC. was through here last week prospecting for oil. Mr. John Edwards has about completed the construction of his gasoline launch, ‘‘Rosalind,’’ and will shortly embark from Derby for Fort Benton, Mont. going down the Ohio to Cairo, Ill., then up the Mississippi to the mouth of the Missouri river, thence up this river. He in tends to go fully prepared to live on his launch, stopping at all the larger cities and places of historical note. Mr. John Estienne, better known as “Fredie,” on last Tues day purchased the trained Scotch collie from Mr. James Burke for a consideration of $80. Mr. Sylvanus Coberstret of Newbury, a timber man, was here last Monday negotiating with Albert Phelps. Jeff, Mr. Nick Lucas and family visited at Mr. Robert Quinlin’s at Branchville Monday. Mr. Davis and son Emery of Te] City are doing some plaster ing for Mr. Laurent at present. Misses Clara and Ida Boullion and brother, Edward visited at their uncle, Mr. Andrew Rogier at——Sunday. Miss Mary Lucas has been visit ing the past week at Miss May Perrot’s at—— Mr. Frank Bernardi lost a fine young horse last week. Mr. Maurice Riot spent the 4th with his sister, Mrs. Josephine Perrot at—— Mr. Ed Esarey, wife and little daughter Luke spent the 4th with Mr. Frank Galey at— Miss Loretta Clutinger ie the “hello girl’? at Branchville now. Misses Cecelia and Thresa Lucas visited at S. H. Marting’s Monday, Miss Alma Sprinkle who has been attending school at Danville returned home Friday of last week, Mr. Louis Velcein helped W. S. Clutinger cut wheat last week. Fuzzy.
