eight men INJURED.Orillia. July fl.-A serious explos-ion occurred at 3.15 this afternoon at the works of the Standard Chemical Co.. Ltd., Longford Mills, by which eight men were injured mid one of the large buildings was badly wrecked. The Standard Chemical Company, whose head office is in Toronto, manufactures wood alcohol and a number of by-products. The explosion occurred in the acetone building, from some unexplained cause, and made a terrific noise. The injured are : Messrs. Cou-broubh. L. G. McNaught John McCauley (seriously), Ed. Smith, William Heslin, John W. Smith, John Kyan and Rev. IV. H. Smith, Presbyterian minister of Uptergrove (slightly burned on the face), who was visiting one of his parishioners. Three of the men employed in the building were seriously injured, and are being brought to the hospital here. News of the accident was immediately telephoned to Orillia, and Drs. Gilchrist, Brown, Ardagh and Harvie. with a number of hospital nurses, went over to the scene of the accident. The roof of the building where the explosion occurred took fire, but eventually the building was saved from total destruction. No other buildings in connection with the chemical plant were damaged.
