Henderson, on “The Sportsman’sMusic,” gives pictures of live gamebirdsand records the musical notes of their songs.It is frosh, original and interesting. Athird, by Tuleott Williams, treats of “Ani-; nml Locomotion in the Muybridge Photo-i graphs,” with a lot of drolly fascinating1 pictures exhibiting in progressive seriesfamiliar phenomena not fully seen beforein nature. A humorous story, yet not without a serious conclusion, Is “Sister Tod-lmnter's Heart, by II. S. Edwards, witB attractive genre pictures by Kemble, to which there is a foil in Mr. Boyeaen’s pathetic “Crooked John,” in which the writer returns to the Norwegian field of “Gunnar” and his other early successes. To these must be added Stockton’s “Hundredth Man. The Lincoln History clow* up the Kansas troubles and discusses their corollary, the “Lineoln-Douglns Debates, Interesting and hitherto unpublished letters by Lincoln and Greeley are given. The veteran historian, George Bancroft, adds to the historical value of the number by recounting “An Incident m the I,ife*of John Adams,” to width there are added portraits of Adntns uml Oliver Ellsworth. The War Series completes this month the hundred days of buttle in the “Struggle for Atlanta,” ootujiactly narrated by Gen. 0. 0, Howard, with a two-page letter from Gen. Hhermun regarding il’he March to the Sea,” while In the next number Gen. Joseph E. Johnston, his opponent., is to write of the tight against Sherman. The poetry is contributed by Edith M Thomas, the late E, it. bill, William II. Hayne, Kate Putnam Osgood, Juliet C. Marsh, William Struthers, the late Sidney Lanier, and Gertrude Hull.
