Mr. Editor :—Dear Sir, Having heard it reported in the streets,-and elsewhere, chat the usually dignified and magnanimous Board of Education of the Milage of Elyria had declined to appoint Miss Fhakcs Potter, as teacher of the West Piimary School, and had appointed another in Iter place, chiefly on the ground thtil her fellicr hid the audacity to seek the opinion of the District Court upon the questions ofitw involved in the case of EiHr.A A. X Iuu c taken a little trouble to i ascertain it' the reports in regard to the cause of the course pursued by the Board of Educations were true, and being unable to come to a satisfactory conclusion, I concluded to ask you to. stale to those interested, through your valuable paper the cause of the change. As editors are presumed to know all things transpiiing in their vicinity', Ipiesumel am not asking too much.If you cannot confer the desiicd infot-maUon pefhapsyou can induce the editor of the Democrat to do so, as lie is in the secrets of the Board. Having too exalted an opinion of the Board of Education to believe for a moment that any member Lhereof could be moved by such unworthy considerations to visit the sins of the parent upon the head of the child, i hftve no doubt you will bo able to explain the action of the Boaid to the satisfaction of all concerned. By the way, Mr. Editor can you inform us whether there is any truth in the story in eh dilation that the Board of Education has drawn an order of twenty five dollars on the treasury to pay Attorney’s fees for defending the above case of Miss Por-tuii against Bobi ms? Borne of us would like to know by what law money dedicated to educational puipo~-es is appropriated to pay Attorney’s fees ? Is’evcr having been members of lho Board we don’t understand the-.e thin us. WasCOthere anything appropriated by the Board to pay Attorney's fees for prosecuting the above named suit—if so, hew much ? We want light upon these questions.
