Mrs. Laura Norton of Dauphin won $10,000 in the Golden Sweepstakes Handicap Race July 1 at Assiniboia Downs, when the horses with which she was matched, So Royal II, came in third. The big winner was Eli Tilton, 76, of Fort St. John, B.C., who won $100,000. He collected another $10,000 because he sold himself the winning ticket and won the ticket seller’s prize as well. British Columbia’ also had the second place winner worth $20,000. This went to Mr. Jessie Hayer of Richmond. Four Manitobans were the eight winners of $1,111 each. Golden Sweepstakes operate three draws a year with the next being based on MRS. LAURA NORTON the Grey Cup Game November.
