July 11, 1882. ‘The Band boys are well pleased over the result of the Band Contest at Brazil on the 4th. The taking of the 1st prize lifts them out of debt. Persons who took in the 4th at Wood side report a lively time. Quite a number of our young folks spent the 4th at Lancaster. Clutters stave factory resumed last week. A. G. Talbott, our popular barber, has removed to Worthington. Rev. N. C. Hughes and wife with sev eral young gentlemen and ladies of this place went to Coal City Saturday eve ning and gave a concert for the benefit of the new church, now being erected there. Miss Lida Witty and Miss Grayson, of Saline City, were the guests of Miss Rosa Warner, of this city, Saturday and Sunday last. Homer Harris visited his old home at Bowling Green last week. Black Brothers are now engaged in opening their stock of general merchan dise in the Len Witty store room S. C. Sadler, who came here about a year ago to sell goods and having accom plished his “mission,” packed his goods last week and removed to Bedford. Quarterly Conference of this circuit will be held here next Saturday and Sunday. Presiding Elder Welker will preach in the grove west of town in the forenoon of Sunday, and the Sabbath schools of Clay City and Middlebury will meet together in the afternoon at the same place. Everybody is invited to come and bring their baskets well filled as it is the intention to spend the day in the grove and have an old fash ioned basket meeting. Mr. Keeler, of Indianapolis, is now among the Masonic Brethren here work ing up an interest in the Masonic Mu tual Benefit Society. Miss Matty Witty left here Monday for Brazil, where she will attend the Normal Institute, Harvest in over and the hum of the thresher is now heard around us. Champer Bros. at the Clay City Mills bought the first new wheat of the season sold in this place.
